Frequently Asked Questions

+
What is SPC (Stone Polymer Composite) vinyl flooring?
SPC is a rigid-core luxury vinyl that uses a stone and polymer composite core, making it extremely durable, 100% waterproof, and dimensionally stable. It won’t expand or contract with temperature changes the way traditional vinyl does, which makes it ideal for Canadian climates, basements, kitchens, and bathrooms.
What is WPC vinyl flooring and how does it differ from SPC?
WPC (Wood Plastic Composite) has a foamed polymer core that makes it softer and warmer underfoot than SPC. It’s still 100% waterproof but slightly less rigid and thicker. SPC is denser and more durable under heavy traffic. WPC is a great choice for living rooms and bedrooms where comfort underfoot matters more than maximum rigidity.
What is loose lay vinyl and where is it best used?
Loose lay vinyl is installed without adhesive or click-lock — it uses friction and its own weight to stay in place. It’s ideal for commercial spaces, rental properties, or anywhere you need a fast, removable installation. It’s also great for going over existing floors since it’s very thin and adds minimal height.
What is glue down / dry back vinyl and who should use it?
Glue down (dry back) vinyl is adhered directly to the subfloor with adhesive. It’s the most stable installation method and is commonly used in commercial environments, high-traffic areas, and spaces with radiant heating. It requires a very flat and well-prepared subfloor. Because it’s permanently bonded, it’s not ideal if you plan to change the floor frequently.
Can vinyl flooring be installed in bathrooms, kitchens, and basements?
Yes — 100% waterproof SPC and WPC vinyl is perfect for these areas. It can be installed on, above, or below grade (including basements) and handles wet areas that wood or laminate cannot. Glue down vinyl is also suitable but requires a moisture barrier in high-moisture areas.
Is it compatible with radiant in-floor heating?
Most click-lock SPC vinyl planks are compatible with radiant heating systems, but the surface temperature must stay below 27°C (80°F). Glue down vinyl can also be used but requires a compatible adhesive rated for heated floors. Always check the specific product spec sheet. If you’re unsure, contact us before ordering.
How do I calculate how many boxes I need?
Use the sq.ft calculator on this page — enter your room size and we’ll show you exactly how many boxes you need. As a general rule, add 10% for cuts and waste (15% for diagonal installations). Each product listing shows the sq.ft coverage per box.
What’s the difference between 5mm, 7mm, and 9mm thickness?
Thicker planks are more rigid, quieter underfoot, and better at hiding minor subfloor imperfections. For most residential use, 6–7mm is the sweet spot. 9mm+ is ideal for larger open areas, higher-traffic zones, or maximum comfort. Thinner planks (4–5mm) work well for light residential use, budget projects, or commercial glue-down applications.
Can I install vinyl plank over my existing flooring?
Floating click-lock LVP can go directly over most hard surfaces including tile, concrete, and existing vinyl — as long as the subfloor is flat (within 3/16” over 10 feet), clean, and structurally sound. Loose lay can also go over most existing hard floors. Glue down must go onto a bare, clean, flat subfloor. None of these can go over carpet.
Do I need underlayment?
Many of our click-lock planks come with an attached underlayment pad already included. If yours doesn’t, adding 1–2mm foam or cork underlayment is recommended for sound reduction. Never double up underlayment under a plank that already has one attached. Loose lay and glue down vinyl do not use underlayment.
How do I clean and maintain vinyl flooring?
Sweep or vacuum regularly to remove grit and debris (avoid beater bar vacuum attachments). Mop with a damp — not soaking wet — mop and a pH-neutral floor cleaner. Avoid steam mops, harsh chemicals, and abrasive cleaners. Use felt pads under furniture legs to prevent scratching.
Do you offer professional installation?
Yes — we offer supply and installation in Kitchener-Waterloo and surrounding areas. Request a free in-home estimate and one of our flooring specialists will measure your space and provide a complete quote including materials and labour.
How long does delivery take and what are the costs?
We deliver across Ontario. Delivery to the Kitchener-Waterloo area starts at $49 +HST. For locations farther away, pricing is based on distance from our Waterloo location — see the delivery pricing section on this page for full details. For locations beyond 250 km, we arrange freight shipping and will provide a quote.
What is the return policy?
Unopened boxes in original condition may be returned within 21 days of purchase. Opened or partially used boxes cannot be returned. Special-order products and clearance items are final sale. Please contact us before returning any product.
Can I see samples before buying?
We don’t send samples by mail, but you’re welcome to visit our showroom and borrow sample boards to take home and compare in your own space. Our showroom is at 11A-283 Northfield Dr. E., Waterloo, ON — open Mon–Fri 9:30am–6pm and Saturday 10am–3pm.
