Hardwood flooring is one of the most premium and long-lasting flooring options available. Known for its natural beauty, durability, and ability to add value to a home, hardwood flooring can last for decades — often over 50 to 100 years with proper care.

Types of Hardwood Flooring We Install

We install both solid hardwood and engineered hardwood flooring, helping you choose the right option based on your space, subfloor, and long-term needs.

  • Solid Hardwood – A natural wood product that offers long-term durability and can be refinished multiple times. Best suited for above-grade areas.

  • Engineered Hardwood – Designed with multiple layers for added stability, making it suitable for a wider range of environments, including basements and areas with varying humidity.

Why Choose Hardwood Flooring?

  • Exceptional durability, often lasting decades
  • Adds value to your home
  • Timeless, natural appearance
  • Can be refinished and restored over time
  • Available in a wide range of wood species, finishes, and styles

These qualities make hardwood a premium flooring choice for both residential and commercial spaces.

Hardwood Flooring Installation Methods

Choosing the right installation method is an important part of your flooring project.  There are three main types: glue-down, nail-down, and click-lock (floating). The best approach depends on the type of hardwood, the subfloor, and the conditions of your space.

Glue-Down Installation

This method involves adhering hardwood planks directly to the subfloor using adhesive.

Advantages

  • Solid feel and reduced movement
  • Less noise and minimal deflection
  • More permanent installation
  • Suitable for both solid and engineered hardwood

Considerations

  • Higher labour cost
  • Requires proper subfloor preparation

Nail-Down Installation

Nail-down is the most common installation method, especially for solid hardwood flooring.

Advantages

  • Strong and secure installation
  • Long-lasting performance
  • Works well with wood subfloors

Considerations

  • Requires specific tools and expertise
  • May develop squeaks over time if not properly installed
  • Requires a wooden subfloor (may need to add one if not already in place)

Click-Lock (Floating) Installation

This method is typically used with engineered hardwood flooring, where planks lock together without adhesive.

Advantages

  • Faster installation
  • More cost-effective
  • No glue hassle
  • Easier to repair or replace planks

Considerations

  • Requires proper underlayment
  • May require additional transition moldings

Important Considerations

Hardwood flooring is a premium product, but it’s important to understand a few key factors:

  • Moisture Sensitivity – Hardwood is a natural material and can expand or contract with humidity changes
  • Installation Location – Solid hardwood is typically installed on or above grade, while engineered hardwood offers more flexibility
  • Subfloor Requirements – Proper subfloor preparation is essential for long-term performance

Choosing the right product and installation method helps ensure the best results for your space.

Preparing for Hardwood Flooring Installation

Proper preparation is essential for a successful installation. Before installation begins, we take the following steps:

  • Clear the Room – Remove all furniture and obstacles from the space
  • Remove Doors and Baseboards – Doors may need to be trimmed to accommodate the new floor, and baseboards are carefully removed if they will be reused
  • Inspect & Prepare Subfloor – Ensure the surface is clean, level, and structurally sound
  • Install Underlayment or Moisture Barrier – Helps protect against moisture and improves performance
  • Mark Floor Joists – Joist locations may be marked to ensure proper fastening where required
  • Plan Layout – Boards are arranged and mixed from different boxes to create a balanced, natural appearance
  • Set Starting Line – A reference line is established to ensure straight and consistent installation

These steps help ensure a clean installation and long-term durability.

Please note: Preparation requirements may vary depending on the space and will be discussed during your estimate.
